PostSubject: Trading in the land of Cold, and a meeting....(Eki)   Sun Jun 14, 2015 3:53 pm

(note: This is another thread set in the past, to be precise, 4 years ago, when Reaper was with a group of traders. Hopefully this'll serve as explanation for why he wears armor.^^)

he group of traders trudged through the snow, walking through the city gates. A young boy, wearing a wooden half mask, brushes  hair as pale as the snow out of his golden eyes, adjusting the sword on his back as he glances around.= I haven't seen any signs of the Octopus group....maybe they're not spread out this far yet..= "Hey, Goblin, hurry up, boy!! You have work to do!" Wincing, the boy hurries up, walking beside his foster' parent'." Honestly, Goblin, you better not embarrass me, this could turn out to be quite benifital to my pocket. Now, let's get going." Adjusting his mask, he nods, ignoring the jeers behind him..They walk on, approaching the area they need to be.

The snow was falling in delicate puffs, gently drifting onto the covered ground.  Two men fight outside, wearing the robes of samurai.  Their blades clash, then retreat.  The younger man tries to draw in closer, stepping towards the older man in order to interrupt his advance and push him into defensive.  The older man aims low, in order to stop the advance.  The younger man had to block, now being put into the defensive.  The jarring interrupt allowed the older man to get another strike in, using the blunt edged sword to rap onto the knuckle of the younger man.  This caused him to drop the sword, and move back in pain.  The older man points his blade at the young man's head.

Too aggressive, Karasu.

Yes sir.

They back up, and begin to get ready again.

Sir Iguru!

The older man looks away.  Another young man is outside the door of the mansion.

The traders are nearly here.

Most likely with the shipment of blades. Let's welcome our guests.

He sheathes his blade, and bade Karasu to follow suit.  Karasu does so, and follows his father.  He was a samurai in training, and learning the ways of Iaido.  But his family sensed a shift in policies of the Land of Iron, and are now preparing to fortify their own stock.  Trading group became a normal sight.  His father dons his armor, and sat in the meeting room.  Karasu sat behind him, and he was to observe the deal.

The trading group enters the meeting room, and the boys foster father bows low, grinning." Aaaaah, hello, sir.truly, it is an honor you have deigned to meet with us, and discuss the sale of magnificent swords forged in Kirigakure. Not only that, we humbly present but a few trinkets, collected throughout the Villages, ranging from novels to simple pendents..But, I digress.Allow me to present but a few peices or our main stock...Goblin!!!" A small white haired boy enters, carrying a bundle of swords in his arms.Examining Iguru and Karusu  with golden eyes, he holds the bundle out.

Iguru grabs the bundle of swords from the trader, and unwraps them. The swords were varied in color and shape. Iguru unsheathes one to inspect it, taking a close look at the quality. A samurai must have a discerning eye in regards to the blades they use. If it lacked a certain quality, it was deemed weak and useful for nothing more than decoration.

This is indeed a Kirigakure blade. The sheen is derivative of the unique forging style those shinobi have developed.

Iguru hands Karasu the blade. On inspection, Karasu can already notice a sort of weight to the sword. It wasn't imbalanced, but the weight threw him off. His father noted this subtle surprise.

The shinobi of Kirigakure developed a heavy water forging technique. The steel is subjugated to hundreds of pounds of pressure before and after forging by their jutsu. It creates a dense blade seemingly incapable of breaking. It is a reason for their people to have become intense swordsmen.

One blade stood out to them in the bundle. A blade which wasn't curved, and on unsheathing, it was seen to have two edges. It was unlike the single edged blades they were used to. The sheath was darkest black, and the binding to the hilt was just as so. The metal shown a darker grey, like a raven-like feather.

Is this a tsurugi? I don't recall ordering that.

Karasu was interested though. It was fascination at first sight. A thought grew in his mind of buying it himself. But the deal was with his father, not the merchant himself.

The trader nods, smiling, as Iguru explains about the forging technique to Karusu, but stops as he sees the tsurugi." Aaaah? Oh, goblin must have gotten confused. Silly, boy, hahaha..." He pats the white haired, masked boys shoulder hard a few times, but notices Karusus fascination." But..ahem...I'm willing to offer a deal to anyone interested....Ah, speaking of deals..there's a unique blade design I've ran into...Boy, what kind of blade is that again." The boy known as Goblin glares, speaking in a broken, growly voice." Its a Seigi-ken...and its mine." The trader smiles." Please don't delay. If we don't make profit, we don't eat." Goblin clenches his teeeth, then reaches over his shoulder, unsheathing the Seigi No Kiba.

The fascination of the tsurugi was interrupted by the merchant ordering the young man to unsheathe his sword and place it up for trade.  It was a strange inward curved blade.  Iguru looks at the blade and shakes his head.

We have a custom in the Land of Iron.  It states that we do not take another man's sword.  It is comparable to taking an arm or a leg, for the sword is an extension of the body.  Swords without owners are the exception.

Iguru looks over to the the tsurugi again.  He notes the interest Karasu had for the blade.

The blade may not be part of the deal, but it shows masterwork quality regardless.  It will just merely add extra to the cost.  I will say 1,000,000 ryō will suffice for the initial deal, and another 1,000,000 ryō for the tsurugi and travel costs.  A total of 2,000,000 ryō.

It was pricey, but for the quality of the blades and travel time, it might make up for the cost.  He knocks on the door, and a servant handed him a case.  Inside contained the money.

Mentally breathing a sigh of relief, the fourteen year old sheathes his weapon, glaring at the trader. When they got back, he was finding another  family to stay with...The trader grins as the money is brought in, and he bows low." Aaaaah, you are very generous, sir. Thank you, truly." He looks at the money, making sure its all there." Not that I think you're cheating me,sir, just that one of your servants might have made a mistake....ahem.." He takes up the case, then grins." May I humbly request we stay in the city a few days, in order to rest and perhaps unload some of our more humble merchandise?"

A man who eats through money has rights to concern himself with how much money is due to him.  As for lodgings, I recommend the inn at the next city.  Karasu, go out and help the merchants unload what we paid for.

Iguru motions Karasu to follow the young man with white hair.

The merchant and I have other matters to talk about.  I'll trust he wouldn't mind sharing some outside information with us...

Karasu nods, grabbing the dark blade and tying it to his side.  He follows the young man outside.

The trader waggles his hand at Goblin." Go on..go unload things, my boy.I have business to do. Now sir...what was it you wanted to know..." The mans voice fades as the boy walks out, adjusting his mask.Walking over to the carts, he begins unpacking the swords, looking up at the older boy."...You don't need to help.." A voice speaks out." Yes, don't worry about Goblin, he can handle it,hahaha..ain't that right, goblin?" Ignoring the jeering trader apprentice, the boy focuses on his work, only to gasp as the annoyed man reaches out with a stick and flicks mask off." Whoops." Goblin covers his face, and searches in the snow, finding the mask which cracked on landing."...Great." He puts the flimsy covering back on, and ignore the cackling, turning back to work.

The traders seem to pick on "Goblin", even going about flicking off his mask. Based on perceptions, Goblin was not happy with his current position. The traders even went as far as to tell Karasu there wasn't a need for him to help. He scoffed in the frosted air.

A thing you should know about us samurai: we are stubborn beings. In this frozen ninja filled world, we were created to be like this.

He proceeds to help the young man unload any goods they were owed. He would ask occasionally about which were purchased. But there was something he wanted to ask the young man personally...

Hey, Goblin-san? The tsurugi... how did your troupe come to possess it?

Every blade had some backstory, or at least the name of the creator. Not knowing a thing about it would drive him crazy.

Goblin nods." Alright...thank you then..." The apprentice merely snorts, turning back to his bottle. Then the squire asks about the blade."....Alright, if you're sure....We were traveling one day. It was getting dark fast and the troupe knew it qwouldnt be wise to stay out after dark... So, our oh so wise leader leads us to a abandoned manor he saw earlier...The place was ruined, shattered, as if a battle had taken place long ago...As we walked in, I saw bones scattered about, and I'm still not entirely sure they were animal bones....As the rest bedded down, I walked into the remains of a training room, and saw that sword...Though I already had a sword, I knew that would be saleable material, so I picked it up, then I sensed something...I found myself staring into a corner too dark to see clearly.I couldn't see it,but I knew something was there. I back up, keeping my sight on that corner, and leave....First thing in the morning, we leave.Maybe it was an animal, maybe not, but be careful. I've heard tales of things inhabiting items, and who knows, right?" He looks down." By the way...um, that's not my name...I don't have one. I don't care what you calle me, but please don't call me that.."

Karasu looked down at the blade after hearing the story. It sent him shivers down his spine, more so than the cold around him. A blade possessed? Such stories haunt most stories in the Land of Iron. Many of the elder would spook the children with such tales, and veteran soldiers would scoff at them. But with this world of shinobi, miracles aren't impossible. And given it's unnatural features...

He snapped out of it when Goblin request him not to call him Goblin, as he had no name.

It will be hard to come up with something if I have no basis to which to go on. Hm...

He picks up a scroll from the pile. It bore the symbol of Lightning. Karasu had an idea, one part sincere and the other goofy.

Why not "Raidon"? A being that that can be as loud and fierce as the thunder, a don of those who cower to his name?

He smiles as he pats Goblins back.

For it is the thunder that is remembered more than the lightning, right? Everyone aspires to be the bolt of lightning, but none are remembered more than the terrifying sound that comes after. You have great aspirations, right?

(lol, like it.^^But pika won't be happy about the name steal, hahaha.)

Goblin looks up, blinking." Raidon....I don't have any particular aspirations...But I do have a job to do..yah, I like it...Thanks." If you looked closely, you could see the faint traces of a smile on the uncovered part of his face. They finish unpacking the merchandise, just as the trader comes out." Goblin! Are you finished yet, boy?" Raidon straightens up."....Yes sir..but don't call me that." The man blinks."What."Raison breathes in." I said don't call me that." The trader chuckles, then steps in, slapping his face and sending the mask flying, which shatters on the ground." You're impudent, Goblin," The reason for them calling him goblin was revealed, as the scarf wrapped around his neck was also dislodged...One half of his face was ruined.A thick mat of huge, veinlike scars covered it, and a few scars leaked around to the side of his head. His lip was burned and pulled back in a permanent grimace, revealing teeth etched from the acid.Even his throaght wasn't spared. There was a blackened ditch running across it, with little burn scars flaking off. Ignoring his bared face, he glares at the treader." My names Raidon!!!And you don't get to do things like that to me anymore!!" The trader glances around, reaching out to the boys, then snorts as he steps back, glaring at him."Don't touch me..I'm not coming with you..You arent my kin, and you dont act like it either. Ill travel alone if i have to, but im not coming with you." "Tch..fine...stay here, then, boy.Our business is concluded, and Im done taking in a ungracious freak like you." The boy glares at him, his lip trembling in aggravation, then winces, turning around, grabing his face."Fine, old man!" As they leave, he looks at Karusu." D....Do you suppose I can stay for awhile?Maybe until the next trading troupe comes? If not, ill go."He sounded worn out, and sad.

The scene unfurled around him as the merchant abused Raidon to the point of revealing his disfigurement.  Had it been someone from the Land of Iron, this level of disrespect would of been dealt with swift action.  But as they were merchants outside the justified laws of his land, he could only stand by in neutrality.  His father would of been disappointed if he had acted in any other way.

Raidon, looking sad and defeated, turned to him and asked if he could stay a while.

I can't say for certain-

For a time.

His father came out of the manor, looking towards the two boys.

In that time, you'll have to have new arrangements such as work and home.  With our environment, it is difficult to harbor many outsiders.  And you are not a citizen of our lands, so your stay has to be temporary.  If none can be made available, you will be guided out with enough resources to reach the nearest village.

Father-

Karasu, I sense it in your voice.  I'll send word to the other houses about that group.  They'll find it hard to keep business in the Land of Iron if they can't treat their workers right.  Now go train.  Break is over.

Iguru turns and reenters the house, leaving the boys in the snow.  Karasu turns to look at Raidon.

I can't change his mind.  Samurai are stubborn beings...

He tries to keep it optimistic, but one could tell that that his father meant each word.

Raison shakes his head." It's fine....though i know im just a kid, I don't mind working hard.I...I just don't want to be treated like a freak.." He walks over, picking the remnants of his mask. The lower portion had shattered off, and there were deep cracks running through the rest.Suffice to say, it wasn't fit to wear anymore." I..I wasn't an employee, anyway.I was supposed to be his foster son, but he just wanted something that'd work for nothing more than foo." He glances around, seeing people look at him, and seems to shrink, pulling his scarfup over his ruined half.

It took weeks, but Karasu's father had made arrangements with the nearest village to harbor Raidon. With the limited reputation, the samurai house had gotten Raidon a fair foster home at the same village In that time, he was put to work, though not as hard as was his previous employment. His chores had involved cleaning the dojo and clearing the snow from the paths.

On the last day before he left, Iguru and Karasu saw him out, with guides that would lead him to his new home.

May the road be soft, your focus blade sharp, and your resolve as stalwart as the pines.

Karasu nods.

Raison had stayed with the village for weeks, before they found a spot in the nearest village. The work he had done was practically paradise after all the trading group had put him through, and he was treated respectfully, even if not many had gotten close to him. But that was fine...he knew what happened to people who he cared about. But, the day had arrived. He looks calmly at the two men who had watched over and helped him,the sun glinting slightly on his new metal mask. "Thank you..." His arms raise slightly, as if he wishes to hug them, but he restrains himself, wincing and adjusting the mask as he pulls out the meager remains of his old mask, handing them to Karu." Mask for mask...May you both fight well, and the judgements you pass upon your foes be swift and just. Farewell..." He begins walking away with his guides, but turns around, the hint of a smile evident in his voice." Come visit, k?"
